Superfood Hot Chocolate Three Ways

Superfood Hot Chocolate Three Ways

I’ve always been a chocolate lover, but as I’ve gotten older and my palate has changed, I’ve leaned less toward the super sweet milk chocolate and more toward the rich, decadent, dark chocolate. I look for chocolate with a minimum of 70% cacao, very little added sugars and junk. My chocolate of choice is 85% cacao. But I digress. This post is not really about chocolate bars at all. It’s about a super creamy, hot cuppa chocolate, with superfood powers. None of that artificial flavor, GMO, corn syrupy junk in the store. Ew.

Actually, the reason I created this recipe was a) because I love a delicious warm beverage to sip on in the cooler winter months, and b) because my friends at Finex Cookware gifted me one of their adorable 1 quart sauce pots and is letting me give one away and I instantly thought about making hot chocolate. See my Instagram for contest details and below for product info.

Why do I call this recipe “superfood hot chocolate?” Well, it’s because I used ingredients that are nutrient dense and are actually good for you like, raw cacao, cacao butter, cinnamon, cayenne, peppermint, collagen, MCT oil, grassfed butter, vanilla, just to name a few! And no, not all together… that might taste, umm, a bit overboard. I’ve included a base recipe for the hot chocolate with three additional variations, plus optional add in options for my super powers and an some adulty add ins too! Oh, and you might want to make my boozy maple bourbon marshmallows for a fun hot chocolate topper!

Let’s do this…

SUPERFOOD HOT CHOCOLATE

(base recipe for 2-3 servings)

ingredients
3 cups non-dairy milk of choice (almond, cashew, macadamia, coconut, or a combo of these. I used homemade cashew milk and it was ah-mazing!)
1/3 cup raw cacao powder
1/4 cup cacao butter, chopped
2 tbsp pure maple syrup (or honey, coconut sugar/nectar)

directions

In a heavy bottomed saucepot (like the Finex 1 quart sauce pot), add all ingredients and heat over medium until bubbles start to form, stirring/whisking frequently. Once bubbles appear, remove from heat.
Add in any of the variation ingredients or optional add ins and ENJOY!

Here are three variations you might enjoy:

Use base recipe and add the additional ingredients while heating mixture in skillet.

1 drop cardamom essential oil (therapeutic grade)

1 slice orange peel* and/or
